Do NOT stack vinyl records How do records get warped? One way is by stacking them. Never stack records on top of each other whether in their jackets or not. This is one sure fire way to cause warping, possible cracking of the vinyl record because of the weight, and will inevitably produce scuff marks and ring wear on the album cover marring the artwork.
Records must always be stored upright like books on a shelf. Because of their size and weight, regular bookshelves don't work well to store vinyl records so consider a real record storage shelf or cube instead. Never stack vinyl records as shown in this photo as it can lead to warped discs and ring wear on the album jackets. Read more on why you shouldn't wet play records. If you want to reduce static pops when playing a record then get one of these.
Keep fingers off the record How do you handle a vinyl record? Never touch the record's playing surface with your bare hands or fingers as your body oil will transfer onto the record attracting even more dust Skate To Hell - Various - The First 10 Singles (Vinyl) affecting sound quality.

Skate To Hell - Various - The First 10 Singles (Vinyl) your filthy paws off the playing surface of a record. Your T-shirt or towel is not a record cleaner Can I give my records a quick whisk with a towel? Resist the temptation to wipe your vinyl record with your shirt or dry cloth no matter how soft it may feel.
This will scratch and scuff the record and only move the dirt around. For dry cleaning or light touch Skate To Hell - Various - The First 10 Singles (Vinyl), use an anti-static record brush as it actually discharges static and lifts dirt without damaging the vinyl record. View step-by-step directions on how to clean records. If it's not specifically labelled for use on vinyl records then please do NOT use it. Never use WD40, lubricants, or solvents of any kind on your records. Never place or pick up a vinyl record as the turntable platter is spinning.
This will quickly scratch the underside of a record. Always wait for the platter to come to a complete stop before doing anything with the record. If your turntable platter uses a rubber or felt mat then make sure it is clean before placing a record on top of it first. Don't mar that beautiful album cover art with tape Can I use masking tape or Scotch tape to fix record jackets?
Skate To Hell - Various - The First 10 Singles (Vinyl) from using Scotch tape or packaging tape to fix a record cover that is splitting or tearing. It will completely destroy the cover. As the cellophane tape ages, it becomes brittle, yellows, and will ooze adhesive making things worse than before. Best to place the record jacket in a poly outer sleeve and place the record in its inner sleeve behind it or place the record in its inner sleeve inside a generic cardboard record jacket and save the original jacket for safekeeping.
I've been playing it with the brush down and I gotta say, even though I wipe down with a velvet brush first, it still picks up dust. To think that would have been hitting the stylus Anti skate helps to counter act the centrifugal force that pulls the tonearm towards the centre of the record while it's spinning. When using a blank vinyl, one without any grooves and the setting at zero, you can see it work.
By adjusting it in increments, you can find the sweet spot where it will neither track towards or away from the middle. This prevents the needle from wearing down one side or the other of your grooves, and should increase sound quality overall. Well thank you very much for the detailed reply. I recognize some of the words you typed. I only have a cheap turn table which does not have one.
But it will be something I look into when I upgrade. Thanks for the help! I've wondered about this the blank record test. Given the purpose of anti-skate to counter the "inward" pull on the arm while running through the groove, so that the needle doesn't ride the inside groove-walland the absence of a groove on a blank side - wouldn't the lack of pull result in a lower-than-needed anti-skate setting?
It's a 2LP with 3 sides, so the fourth is just blank vinyl. I figured I'd check my anti-skate since I always just kept it around the same setting as whatever I had the tracking force set to. Turns out I was WAY off! I have an older model Pioneer so it might be an issue with age, but still if I hadn't stumbled across a blank side I would not have actively searched one out.
Anybody have any advice as to how to find blank vinyl? Or maybe some other albums that have an empty 4th side? That's what I always use to adjust my anti-skate. Beastbut those have some sort of etching and I prefer a real blank side. How is the sound on that pressing? I'm no expert when it comes to breaking down what makes a good pressing, but I thought it sounded fine. There wasn't any noticeable surface noise, sounded better than the Mp3's that came with it.
If your going to a show you might be able to pick one up, maybe even get it signed You can probably find some blank records online. I've found a few at a local thrift store, and the local record store also has some mixed in with the 78s.
They may be acetate though. Used to be for personal records like wedding records, radio broadcasts like a recording of FDR declaring war and self released music. What's the best way to adjust this? My tone arm goes in a little bit, stops and doesn't move. The tone arm doesn't move all the way to the center nor does it move outward. Did I do it right? Shouldn't matter where you're dropping the stylus, when it's dialled in, it'll stay still.
Baby steps I've tried adjusting it as I go too. The tone arm always falls to the same spot and stays. I've been adjusting on a one-sided record but even the smallest steps I go it seems to do the same thing, unless I go to 0 which reaches the end.
Have you check with a spirit level? I actually haven't checked Maybe that's why? I'll have to check for a 'spirit level' somewhere. As for the TT being on a flat surface? I mean it's not on its side. I'll double check everything. Since it seems fall where the run-out groove is on the other side.
No this is what I meant, is the surface the TT on actually flat, or just flat looking. Hence ensure it is with the spirit level, and adjust with card for now to ensure it is. Oh, I quote things at random, I don't know what it's called but I know what your talking about. I have a place to put it I just need to. What did you settle with as your antiskate value and what is your vtf set to out of interest.
I ask to see what merit there is the "antiskate to just below you vtf" rule of thumb. Yeah, I saw that video about 20 times. No Skate To Hell - Various - The First 10 Singles (Vinyl) where my knob is at, it doens't stay put.
There is a spot where it stays, I just cant put it at x-spot and expect it to stay, it veers over a few inches and stops in place. Hard to tell if the reflection is accurate, but is your azimuth off by a few degrees counterclockwise?
