It's a song I'm very familiar with, and the first time I played it back it sounded a bit off the tempo and vocals. So I compared it with a CD version tried to synchronize the playbacks and it definitely is playing back too slow on the record. But the other tracks on the record sound okay so far, and I tried a couple of other records that I am also very familiar with and that I have CD versions of, and they seem perfectly fine.

So my question is whether it is even possible for one random track of one record to play too slow, but everything else be okay? Or should such a problem be impossible, and perhaps I'm just missing something on the other records or maybe imagining things? Could the issue be with the record itself? It doesn't seem warped to my untrained eye, but I could be missing something.

Check the stylus force and bias control are set properly for the cartridge, normally around 1. If you cannot achieve a proper speed you have either a slipping belt or a slow motor. If the motor is frequency controlled check the mains frequency is normal, which is easy enough with a flourescent lamp and a stroboscope which all boy scouts will have in a pocket somewhere just to be useful.

You can sometimes cure a slipping belt with a bit of talc. Take the belt off and talc it. Not a lot, just a bit. Rub the talc in by running the belt trough your fingers.

The belt should be only slightly discoloured, not white. Lay it on edge on a few sheets of plain paper on a tray and turn the oven up to around C for a few minutes. Let the belt cool and talc it.
