I may never stop, as it is pretty freeing. At one point my ex let me borrow his laptop he is a great guy. How would you describe your own musical steps of progression in a behind-the-music documentary sort of way?

It depends on the day. I tend go for a walk for a bit, then usually a short poem pops into my head, usually the length of a verse.

That comes with a melody, so I type the verse up on my phone, then record an a cappella version while I walk around. I go home, make a beat. I match the aforementioned lyrics with the music I made if they feel right together. I come back to the music over the course of subsequent weeks to do needed additions or edits — this tends to happen between three to six times. I know a lot of super talented people. The man is a talent. The guys who do Laser Blast really know how to program an evening. Graham would constantly play great music in his living room while I stayed there.

Axel: The Black Windmill is just this open thing, something I came up with as a platform to play around with outside of United Ghosts.

I like to composite imagery from different sources to add layers of depth and context to the visuals, and sometimes stumble upon another dimension in the process. I was thinking about the image of my body being dragged through various landscapes and thought it worked well with this song. I wanted to be dragged around the world. The cyclops adds humor, an antagonist that becomes a friend or confidant, the same way getting over a heartbreak takes you somewhere new, seems so trivial when time passes. You may even become friends with, or grateful for, the thing you once wanted to erase. We practice in a tiny room where mold grows on the guitar cases.

Sterke composities, ijzersterke teksten: sociaal bewogen en vol passie gezongen. Als vanouds. Kwam op de valreep deze maand mijn top10 binnen.

Direct gegrepen. Wat een klasse. Voor mij als altijd inspirerend. Beter dan zijn debuut zelfs. Mijn ambivalente houding ten opzichte van zijn soms nogal destructieve teksten maakt dat dit album niet hoger op de lijst staat.

Op dit album covert de jazz zangeres standards van Billie Holiday. Bijzonder is dat ze productie heeft uitbesteed aan Nick Launay Nick Cave.

Dit album is, mijn inziens, onterecht ontsnapt aan de aandacht van veel recensenten dit jaar. Americana in optima forma. Innovatieve hiphop uit Schotland.

Ik heb getwijfeld over die Otis Taylor Daniel. Ik denk dat je gelijk hebt. Langhorne Slim zingt ook mee op Hey Joe opus red meat. Ook over The Lone Bellow getwijfeld. Uiteindelijk vond ik hun eerste plaat net wat beter geproduceerd door Charlie Peacock en daarom heb ik Then came the morning niet opgenomen in mijn lijstje. Het is mij compleet ontgaan dat de eerste Lone Bellow door Charlie Peacock geproduceerd was! Ik wist niet eens dat er een link was tussen die twee.
